Dorthy Ellen Smith Barton 1930-2010 Obituary
Mrs. Dorthy Ellen Smith Barton, 79,a resident of Elkins, WV passed away Sunday morning December 27, 2009 at her residence.
She had been in declining health for sometime.
She was born Monday November 10, 1930 at Terra Alta, WV, a daughter of the late Adam Filmore and Lucy Ellen Bucklew Smith.
On June 12, 1948 at Kitzmiller, MD she was married to Glenn S. Barton who survives at Elkins,WV. Dorothy attended the schools of Preston County and prior to her retirement, she had worked as a teachers aide for Randolph County Schools and later retired as assistant librarian of the Randolph County Public Library.
She was a member of the Wayside United Methodist Church and also a member of the Womens Society in Christian Services.
In addition to her husband, she is survived by three sons: Phillip K. Barton of Salisbury, NC, Bradley S.and wife LuAnn Combs Barton of Hambleton, WV and Timothy A. and wife Cynthia Edwards Barton of Etters, PA; one granddaughter: Leslie Combs Barton of Hambleton, WV and one grandson: Max Aaron Barton of Etters, PA.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by one brother: Harold E. Smith. She was the last surviving member of her immediate family. At Dorothy’s request, her body will be cremated.
On Saturday January 2, 2010 at 11:00 a.m. a memorial service and celebration of her life will be held at Wayside United Methodist Church in Elkins, WV with the Rev. Walter Ellison officiating.
