Gary Lee Shaffer, 63, a resident of Elkins entered into eternal rest on Saturday, November 13, 2010 at the Hospice Inpatient Care Center at Elkins. He was born on Saturday, November 23, 1946 at Valley Head, a son of the late Ralph Shaffer and Hazel Vandevender Shaffer, who survives. He had attended the schools of Randolph County and retired from the City of Elkins Water Treatment Plant after thirty-six years of service. Left to cherish Gary’s memories are wife Brenda Hedrick Shaffer of Elkins, five children: Shawn Stewart and wife Christy of Buckhannon, Kelly Stanchfield and husband James of Battleground, IN, Justin Shaffer and wife Miranda of Colorado Springs, CO, Chad Shaffer and Lucas Shaffer both at home, one sister Phyllis Swecker and husband Phillip of Leesburg, GA, one brother Richard Shaffer of Elkins and five grandchildren, Victoria, Kristin, Allison, Corbin, and Daniel and two nephews: Jeff Swecker and wife Marcy of Murry, KY and Mitchell Swecker of Leesburg, GA. In addition to his father, Ralph, he was preceded in death by one sister, Marilyn Shaffer. Visitation will be held on Wednesday, November 17, 2010 at the Randolph Funeral Home and Cremation Services from 12 noon until 2PM, at which time a Celebration of Life will be held. Kevin E. Hostetler will officiate and at Gary’s request, he will be cremated.
