RUTH JONES CONRAD, age 93 years, a native of Randolph County, WV and a resident of Kernersville, NC departed this life late Monday evening, January 4, 2010 at Britthaven of Kernersville.
She was born Friday, December 29, 1916 at Upshur County, WV a daughter of the late William Morgan Jones and Iva Leotta Carpenter Jones. She was twice married. First to Roy Byrd. Second on October 2, 1937 at Oakland, MD she was married to Frank Conrad, who preceded her in death. Surviving are one son, Floyd Truman “Sonny” Conrad and wife Konnie, Greensboro, NC; one daughter, Patricia Ann Byrd Bonfield and husband Charles, Delray Beach, FL; nine grandchildren and fourteen great grandchildren.
She was the last surviving member of her immediate family. Preceding her in death are four brothers, Styvisan M., Sandusky Washington, Cladis J., and Paul Morgan Jones; and three sisters, Beulah Aretta Crummett, Pauline Nellie Sharp, and Josephine Leigh Conrad.
Ruth attended the schools of Randolph County, was a homemaker and a Methodist by faith. She enjoyed sewing and bowling
The family will receive friends at the Lohr & Barb Funeral Home of Elkins from 4 to 6 PM, Friday. Final Rites will be conducted at the funeral home chapel, Saturday, January 9, 2010 at 10:30 AM. The Reverend Jonas Johnson, Jr. will officiate and interment will follow at the Mingo Cemetery at Mingo, WV. The family suggests that expressions of sympathy be in the form of contributions to the Alzheimer’s Association, West Virginia Chapter, 1111 Lee Street, East, Charleston, WV 25301.
