VALLIE VIRGINIA COSNER GOFF, age 96 years, a resident of Elkins, WV departed this life Tuesday afternoon, February 2, 2010 at the Elkins Regional Convalescent Center at Elkins.
She was born Tuesday, August 12, 1913 at Wildell, Greenbrier County, WV a daughter of the late Simon Elsworth Cosner and Grace Virginia Smith Cosner. On August 18, 1934 at Oakland, MD she was married to George “Franklin” Goff, who preceded her in death. Surviving are one son, Donald Dale Goff and wife Barbara, Beverly; two daughters, Dixie Lee Gutmann and Jerri Lynn Snyder, both of Elkins; one brother, David Cosner, FL; two sisters, Margaret Wilson, CA; Roberta Wolf Dye, Elkins; nine grandchildren and nine great grandchildren.
Preceding her in death are four brothers, Chester, Durward, Daris and infant Clinton Cosner and three sisters, Helen Nickerson, Sicely Coffelt and Wanda Luzier.
She attended the schools of Porterwood and was a graduate of Parsons High School with the Class of 1934. She had worked at the former Dorman Mills, the former Tucker County Hospital as an LPN for many years, as an office nurse for Dr. Pete Michaels, and as a house mother at Davis & Elkins College. She was a member of the Parsons Chapter # 91, Order of the Eastern Star, the First United Methodist Church of Elkins and loved to travel.
Mrs. Goff’s request for cremation was honored. Friends will be received at the First United Methodist Church of Elkins on Friday, February 19, 2010 from 10 to 11AM, at which time a memorial service will be held. The Reverend Doctor Basil A. Hensley and the Reverend Barry R. Moll will officiate and interment will follow at Mountain State Memorial Gardens at Gilman.
