GREATHEL VIRGINIA KEENER MURPHY 1916-2010 Obituary
GREATHEL VIRGINIA KEENER MURPHY, age 93 years, a resident of Parsons, WV, departed this life Friday, March 19, 2010 at Cortland Acres Nursing Home at Thomas.
She was born Tuesday June 6, 1916 at Tucker Co., a daughter of the late Charles H. Keener and Mary Elizabeth Putter Keener. On August 11, 1933, she was married to Winifred Herbert Murphy, who preceded her in death, November 15, 1959.
Surviving are three sons, William Charles Murphy and wife Elyse of West Palm Bay, FL, Robert Earl Murphy of Daytona Beach, FL and Roger David Murphy and wife Dottie of Blackman Heights: one daughter, Viola Ann Shahan Filler and husband John of Parsons; eleven grandchildren; twenty four great grandchildren; and three great great grandchildren.
She is the last surviving member of her immediate family having been preceded in death by three brothers, Ed, Bill and Bob Keener and four sisters, May Glass, Daisy Kerr, Della Davis and Bertha Hershman.
She attended the one room school at Mackeyville. During World War II, she worked as a Welder in the Shipyards at Baltimore, Md. She was a Nurse’s Aide for the former Tucker County Hospital and she was a private Nurse’s Aide. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church at Parsons.
The family will receive friends at the Lohr & Barb Funeral Home of Parsons on Tuesday from 5 to 8 PM. Final rites will be conducted at the funeral home parlor on Wednesday, March 24, 2010 at 11 AM. The Rev. Jeff Anderson will officiate and interment will follow at the Parsons City Cemetery at Parsons.
