RAYMOND JENNINGS RAY NELSON 1947-2010 Obituary
RAYMOND JENNINGS “RAY” NELSON, age 63 years, a resident of Whitmer, WV departed this life late Tuesday evening, October 12, 2010 at his home. He had been in declining health and under the care of Mountain Hospice.
He was born Tuesday, July 22, 1947 at Whitmer, WV a son of the late Samuel Oscar Nelson and Genevieve Marie Hedrick Nelson. On May 21, 1966 at Whitmer, WV he was married to the former Dorotha Kay Teter, who preceded him in death December 7, 2009. Surviving are two sons, Roy Dale Teter and wife Ruby, Bartow; Gary Ray Nelson and wife Heather, Hubbard, OH; two daughters, Dorothy “Darlene” Nelson, Whitmer; Denise Ann Vance and husband Paul, Whitmer; several brothers and sisters; seven grandchildren, Jennifer, twins Alyssa and Erin, Autumn, Bryan, Alexis and Daylon; and three great grandchildren, Hunter, Hayle and Mason.
Preceding him in death are several brothers and sisters.
He attended the schools of Whitmer, had worked for the Huttonsville Correctional Center, then R. H. Armstrong for thirty-four years and Kermit Butcher as a roller operator. He loved and cherished his grandchildren, was an avid outdoorsman, enjoying ramping and going to his cabin.The family will receive friends at the Whitmer Church of God from 6 to 8 PM, Thursday. Final Rites will be conducted at the Church, Friday, October 15, 2010 at 12:30 PM. Pastor John Demorest and Pastor Steven Bailey will officiate and interment will follow at the Laurel Hill Cemetery at Whitmer, WV.
