MILDRED IRENE JONES “MILLIE” COX, age 85 years, a resident of Elkins, WV departed this life Sunday, October 3, 2010 at Valentine’s Assisted Living Facility at Beverly, WV. She had been in declining health for the past five years. Death was attributed to complications of Alzheimer’s
She was born, Saturday, January 24, 1925 at Braddock, PA a daughter of the late John Theodore Jones and Adeline Braucher Jones. During September 1946 at Pittsburgh, PA she was married to Dr. Thomas Hill Cox, who survives. They had celebrated sixty-four years of marriage. Also surviving are one son, John Thomas Cox, Raleigh, NC; two daughters, Barbara Cox Seaman and husband David, Statesboro, GA; Suzanne Cox and husband George Razor, Mountain Home, ID; one brother, James “Jimmy” Jones, FL; one grandson, Michael Hill Johnson, Elkins; one granddaughter, Lauren Mullennex Bourne, FL; and two great granddaughters, Maize Irene Johnson, Elkins; and Kristen Bourne, FL.
She was a graduate of South Connellsville High School with the Class of 1941 and Pittsburgh University with the Class of 1946, with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Nursing. She was the Director of the Davis Memorial Hospital School of Nursing and an instructor for the Nurse’s Assistant Program in Randolph County. She was a lifelong member of the Davis Memorial Presbyterian Church of which she had held various offices in the church including Deacon and Elder. She also attended the Beverly Presbyterian Church. She was an avid flower gardener, enjoyed needle point, quilting, traveling and loved dogs.
The family will receive friends at the Lohr & Barb Funeral Home of Elkins on Thursday, from 5 PM to 6 PM, the funeral hour. The Rev. Art Seaman will officiate and cremation will follow. A Graveside service will be held at a later date at the Brick Church Cemetery at Huttonsville, WV.
