MARSHALL “BLAIR” NEEL, SR. age 95 years, a resident of Parsons, WV departed this life Thursday evening, November 11, 2010 at the Cortland Acres Nursing Home at Thomas, WV.
He was born Saturday, August 7, 1915 at Bayard, WV, a son of the late Charley B. Neel and Lela Mae Dean Neel. He was twice married, first to the former Mary Selsek, who preceded him in death April of 1971, and second on Sept. 1, 1973, he was married to the former Betty Jane Judy, who survives.
Surviving are one son, Marshall “Ruff” Neel, Jr. and wife Helen; one daughter, Patty Flanagan and husband Mike, all of Oakland, Md, two stepsons, Edward Carrico and wife Diane of Seline, MI and William Carrico and wife Alexandria of Las Vegas, NV, two sisters, Mary Catherine Gordon and husband James of Oakland, MD, Jane L. Lee of West Middlesex, PA; two grandsons, three step grandsons and three step granddaughters and several great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
Preceding him in death is one brother, Billy Neel.
He attended the schools at Bayard. He was a Veteran of the United States Army, having served during WWII in the Pacific Theatre at Normandy. He was a life member of the Tygart Valley Post #3647 Veterans of Foreign Wars and a member of the American Legion. He was a Charter member of the former Mt. Storm Post 6735 V.F.W. He was a construction worker and a member of the Local #984 Labors Union for forty five years.
The family will receive friends at the Lohr & Barb Funeral Home of Parsons on Wednesday from 6 to 8 PM. Final rites will be conducted at the funeral home parlor Thursday, November 18, 2010 at 2PM. The Rev. John Morrison and The Rev. Eli Hostetler will officiate and interment will follow at the Bethel Cemetery at Holly Meadows, where the H.W. Daniels Post #29 American Legion, the Tygart Valley Post #3648 Veterans of Foreign War and the Tucker Co. Veterans Assoc. will conduct full military rites.
