DENNIS GODWIN, age 82 years, a resident of the Brushy Fork Community, Parsons, WV departed this life Thursday, November 11, 2010 at the Broaddus Hospital at Philippi, WV.
He was born Wednesday September 4, 1928 at Brushy Fork, St. George, WV, a son of the late Clarence Joe Godwin and Ina Pearl Nestor Godwin. On August 6, 1959, he was married to the former Doris Lee Watring, who survives. They had celebrated fifty one years of marriage.
Also surviving are one son Danny Lee Godwin of St. George; three daughters, Kathy Hissam and husband Marty of Bretz, Deloris Jean Streets and husband Robert and Nancy Auvil, all of St. George; eight grandchildren, Debbie, Amanda, Shelley, Brad, Tiffany, Kristy, Brittany, and T.J. and several nieces and nephews.
Preceding him in death are one brother, Jacob Brook Godwin; two half brothers, Alva Shahan and Johnny Godwin; and five sisters, May Streets, Sylvia Summerfield, Dolly Summerfield, Edith Nestor and Ruth Bohon.
He attended the one room school at Brushy Fork. He was a lifelong farmer and he worked for the former Dorman Mills and Kingsford Charcoal Company, where he retired.
The family will receive friends at the Lohr & Barb Funeral Home of Parsons on Monday from 5 to 8 PM. Final rites will be conducted at the funeral home parlor Tuesday November 16, 2010 at 11:30AM. Pastor Carolyn Shreve will officiate and interment will follow at the Pifer Mountain Cemetery at St. George.
