KENNETH DIRUS “SLUG” BUTCHER JR., age 35 years, departed this life early Saturday afternoon January 1, 2011 at Ruby Memorial Hospital in Morgantown, WV following a sudden illness.
He was born Saturday, November 8, 1975 at Elkins, WV a son of the late Kenneth Dirus Butcher, Sr. and Geraldine Smith Butcher. He is survived by his soul-mate Dawn Summerfield. Also surviving are two precious children: Ashley Dawn Butcher, and Kenneth Dirus Butcher III, both of Job, WV; two sisters, Connie Zernie Cottrell, Belington; and Norma “Susie” Lambert and husband Richard, Bemis. Two brothers, Michael James Butcher and wife Sarah, Elkins; Terry Lynn Butcher, Job; and his cat “Petey” , whom he loved dearly. He was helped raised by his Grandfather, Bruce Vance, and he was very close to his nephew Christopher Ray Vance, both of Job.
Preceding him in death are his parents; and his grandmother Connie Vance, who helped raise him.
He attended Harman High School, was an avid hunter; and enjoyed camping. He also loved playing pool and spending time with his family and friends. He cared about people; and was so unselfish that he was an organ donor, so that others could live. He will be sadly missed by all who knew him.
The family will receive friends at the Lohr & Barb Funeral Home of Elkins Thursday, January 6, 2011 from 5 to 8 PM. Final Rites will be conducted at the funeral home chapel, Friday, January 7, 2011 at 1 PM. The Rev. Eli Hostetler will officiate and interment will follow at the Smith Family Cemetery at Job, WV.
