OBITUARY: GARNETT LEE CROSS Garnett Lee Cross, 71, of Philippi, died Friday afternoon, November 12, in the United Hospital Center, Clarksburg, following a brief illness. She was born July 5, 1939, at Philippi, a daughter of the late Kenneth E. And Beatrice (Hunt) Smith. Her husband, Donald Lee Cross preceded her in death on September 18, 1986. Surviving are two sons, Gary Lyn Cross and wife, Amy, Good Hope, Terry Edward Cross and wife Stevevette, Clarington, Oh.; one brother, Kenneth Smith Jr., Glenville; five grandchildren, Amber Cross, Ashley Ferell, Kaleigh Wetzel, Michael Cross and Michael Derby; one great granddaughter, Ellie Grace Currence. She was also preceded in death by two sisters, Norma Jean Lohr and Mary Lou Queen and by one brother, James Edward Smith. Mrs. Cross was a 1957 graduate of Philippi High School and had attended Glenville State College. She was a homemaker and was a member of the Point Pleasant Baptist Church. She was an avid fan of yard sales and flea markets and loved to make floral arrangements. Funeral services will be conducted at 1:00 P.M. on Tuesday, November 16, from the Stemple & Forman Funeral Home, 385 So. Main Street, Philippi. Paul Byrd will officiate and interment will follow in the Mary’s Chapel Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 2:00 until 4:00 P.M. and from 7:00 until 9:00 P.M. on Monday. Friends may also call from 9:00 A.M. until 1:00 P.M., the funeral hour, on Tuesday. The Stemple & Forman Funeral Home is entrusted with arrangements.
