MARY MARGARET ALTIERI, age 101 years, a resident of Elkins, WV departed this life early Thursday morning September 22, 2011 at the Elkins Regional Convalescent Center at Elkins.
She was born Monday, August 22, 1910 at Coalton, WV a daughter of the late Antonio and Cocetta Condella Altieri. She had never married. Surviving are several nieces and nephews.
She was the last surviving member of her immediate family. Preceding her in death are five brothers, Julius John; Patsy L.; Stephen; Alfred “Nick”; and Anthony “Tim” Altieri; and two sisters, Rose Wilmoth; and Joan Perry.
She attended Coalton Twelve Year School, had formerly worked for the United States Postal Service at Coalton, was the Head Cook at the Coalton Twelve Year School for twenty-two years and was a member of the Saint Brendan Catholic Church.
The family will receive friends at the Lohr & Barb Funeral Home of Elkins from 5 to 8 PM, Sunday. On Sunday, at 7 PM, at the funeral home, a wake service will be conducted by the Very Rev. Donald X. Higgs, VF. On Monday morning, September 26, 2011 Ms. Altieri will be moved to the Saint Brendan Catholic Church where the Liturgy of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 AM. The Very Rev. Donald X. Higgs, VF will be the Presider and interment will follow at the Saint Brendan Cemetery at Elkins, WV.
