Mabel Irene Knotts Evans, 96, a resident of the Leadmine Community, Tucker County, passed from this life Tuesday morning, January 11, 2011 at Colonial Place in Elkins. She was born Friday, May 15, 1914 at Sugarlands, Tucker County, WV, a daughter of the late William A. Knotts and Elizabeth A. Canan Knotts. On July 20, 1935 at Oakland, MD, she was married to Glennis Dale “Bus” Evans who preceded her in death on November 5, 1994. Mabel was also the last surviving member of her family having been preceded in death by three sons, Clayton Dale, Leonard Ray, and Denzil Earl, nine brothers, Homer, Wilbur, Claude, Earl, Arthur, Marvin, Delton, Walter “Jack”, and Dewey, two half brothers, Albert and Harvey, five sisters, Rosa Mullenax, Sylvia Mullenax, Ethel Mullenax, Blanche Davis, and Bertha Slaubaugh, and one great grandson, Grant Miller. Mabel had attended the Pleasant Vale School at Horseshoe Run and was a homemaker. She enjoyed gardening and quilting, but was especially known for her cooking. She was a member of the Leadmine United Methodist Church and a fifty plus year member of the United Methodist Women. Left to cherish her memories is one son, Milton Evans and wife, Eloise of Thomas, three daughters, Twyla Auvil and husband, Troy of Scot Depot, Loretta Mills and husband, James of Springfield, and Barbara Miller and husband, William “Mont” of Parsons, thirteen grandchildren, David Auvil, Lisa Meadows, Jackie Coleman, Denzil Evans, Jr., Kevin Evans, Ryan Evans, Brian Evans, Michelle Rhodes, Cynthia Wright, Sara Phillips, Andrew Mills, Rachel Miller, and Nathan Miller, and fifteen great grandchildren, Ryan Meadows, Kara Meadows, Steven Coleman, Josh Coleman, Thomas Evans, Owen Evans, Hannah Evans, Bethany Evans, Zachary Evans, Alex Ford, Evan Rhodes, Lydia Rhodes, Luke Rhodes, Ayla Phillips, and Alexander Phillips, and many nieces and nephews. Visitation will be Friday from 5 PM until 8 PM. Funeral services will be held from the funeral home chapel on Saturday, January 15, 2011 at 1 PM. The Reverend Neal Precht and the Reverend Todd Rhodes will officiate and interment will follow at the Bethel Cemetery at Holly Meadows.
