Roland “Pete” Franklin Woods, 83, of Elkins, WV entered into eternal rest early Monday February 21, 2011 at home surrounded by family. He was born Thursday March 17, 1927 in Mill Creek, WV, a son of the late Albert and Lucinda Wamsley Woods. He was a lifelong resident of Randolph County. Roland’s hobbies included hunting and fishing. He was honorably discharged from the US Army with the rank of corporal. On Tuesday July 16, 1946 in Elkins, WV he married the love of his life Bernice Mullenex who preceded him in death. He was employed as a welder for Columbia Gas Transmission in Elkins for over forty years. Roland was a wonderful man with a great sense of humor who truly loved his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by four sisters: Nellie Scott, Mary Hinkle, Hazel Hinzman and Georgia Martin; three brothers: Woodrow, Clarence “Chum”, and Edward Woods. Left to cherish his memories are two daughters: Patti Delaney of Philippi, WV and Connie Rockwell of Elkins, WV; two sons: Rodney Woods and wife Beverly and Edward Woods and one sister: Twila Hyre and husband Loren all of Elkins, WV; thirteen grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. Graveside services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday April 23, 2011 at Little Arlington Cemetery in Cravensdale, WV with Pastor Ken Shiflett officiating. Full military honors will be accorded by VFW Post 3 3647 of Elkins,American Legion Post #29 of Elkins and WVNG Honor Guard of Kingwood, WV.
