Robert Harold Mattis,Sr.,89, of Elkins, WV entered into eternal rest early morning Sunday March 6, 2011 at Davis Memorial Hospital in Elkins, WV. He was born Tuesday December 8, 1921 in Spring City, PA, a son of the late Luther Walter and Mary Ziemer Mattis. He was a WWII veteran of the US Army. He was of the Protestant faith. Robert loved watching sports of any kind. He was employed by Superior Tube Company in Collegeville, PA for several years before his retirement. He was married to the former Loyce Pennypacker who preceded him in death on Monday July 29, 1996. After his wife’s death he moved to WV to be close with family. He was a loving father, grandfather and great-grandfather. Robert was the last surviving member of his immediate family. In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by one daughter: Penny Lee Crowe; one great-granddaughter: Nicola Crowe; four sisters: Kathryn Chuck, Ruth Steeb, Marie Tyson and Margaret Doane and two brothers: Leroy and Edward Mattis. Left to cherish Robert’s memories are one daughter: Ruth Mills and husband Stanford of Elkins, WV; one son: Robert Harold Mattis,Jr. of Socorro, NM; four granddaughters: Lori Sedgwick and Dawn Robbins both of PA, Lindsay Mills Hawken and Jamie Mills both of Elkins, WV; one grandson: Robert Crowe of PA and 11 great-grandchildren. At Robert’s wishes his body will be cremated. The family will have a private service.
