Dorothy Dale Armstrong Lloyd 1921-2011 Obituary
Dorothy Dale Armstrong Lloyd, 89, a resident of Hambleton passed from this life Tuesday afternoon, April 12, 2011 at the Davis Memorial Hospital in Elkins following a brief illness. She was born on Tuesday, October 18, 1921 at Hendricks, a daughter of the late Isaac and Isabelle Knotts Armstrong. On May 20, 1940 at Monterey, VA, she was married to Charles O. Lloyd, who preceded her in death on July 12, 1993. She was the last surviving member of her immediate family having been preceded in death by three brothers, Worth Howes, Glenn Howes, Edgar Armstrong, and three sisters, Madeline Evans, Evelyn Phillips, and Lenora Combs. Left to cherish her memory is one son, Charles D. Lloyd and wife, Carol of Hambleton, one grandson, Charles R. Lloyd and wife, Tammy of St. Mary’s, one granddaughter, Tracie Sedlock and husband, Chris of Garfield Heights, OH, two great grandsons, Charles Caleb Lloyd and Adam Sedlock, four great granddaughters, Kelci Lloyd, Sarah Lloyd, Angela Sedlock, and Anna Sedlock, special nieces and nephews, Lu Ann Barton and husband, Brad, Steve and Fred Combs, Linda Rish, Phyllis Henline, Janice Stank, and husband, Ken, and a special great niece, Leslie Barton. She was a graduate of Parsons High School, was a homemaker, and with her husband, had co-owned and operated the former Hambleton Grocery for many years before retiring in 1983. She was a lifelong member of the Hambleton United Methodist Church where she had served as Superintendent of the church for many years. In 2010, she was recognized as the oldest living member of the church and honored for being a 60+ year member of the Women’s Society in Christian Service. Visitation will be held at the Summerfield Funeral Home in Parsons on Thursday from 5 until 8 PM. On Friday, April 15, 2011, Dorothy will be moved to the Hambleton United Methodist Church where friends may call from 10AM until 11AM, the funeral hour. The Reverend Loren Metzner will officiate and interment will follow at the Parsons City Cemetery.
