Mr. Samuel Corbin Magner, age 61 years, a resident of Beverly, passed away Thursday, August 25, 2011 at the Ruby Memorial Hospital at Morgantown surrounded by his family. He was born December 18, 1949 at Elkins, a son of the late Silas Corbin Magner and Agnes Amos Magner. On January 22, 1977, he was married to the former Lucy Marie Albright who survives. Also surviving are two sons, Sammy J. Magner of Charleston and David A. Magner and wife Hope A. Magner of the state of Washington. Five Sisters, Irma Ford, Betty I. Clifford and husband Raymond all of North Carolina, Dessie Dassori and husband Dan of Beverly, Mona Kittle and husband Squire of Mill Creek, two sisters-in-law; Patricia Lester and husband Ronald and Yvonne Magner all of Elkins, eight nephews and eleven nieces also survive. Also preceding him in death was one brother, Norman Magner.
Samuel was a truck driver for forty-three years and was a commonly known as “Hotdog”. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army serving in the Vietnam War from 1968 until 1971. He was a member of Tygart Valley Post 3647 Veterans of Foreign Wars, H.W. Daniels Post 29 American Legion and the Vietnam Veterans of America Chapter 812. He was an avid fisherman, hunter and woodworker. Samuel loved to spend time with his family and friends on his boat, in his garage and at his camp at Seneca Rocks. Samuel loved to have a good time and for everyone around him to laugh, smile and be happy. It is for this reason that there will be no traditional funeral service. The family asks that flowers and other memorial type items be omitted. All friends are invited to a celebration of Sam’s life to be held at the Tygart Valley Post 3647 Veterans of Foreign Wars in Elkins from 6:00 P.M. until 9:00 P.M. Friday, September 2, 2011. Bring your favorite covered dish and enjoy a few beers as we enjoy reminiscing about Sam and all the wonderful things he accomplished in his life.
