Martha Neal Marty Stone 1942-2011 Obituary
Martha Neal “Marty” Stone, age 68 years, a resident of Rt. 1, Elkins, Chenoweth Creek Community, passed away peacefully Friday evening, September 2, 2011 at her home.
Marty was born November 27, 1942 at San Mateo, CA. She graduated from Carlmont High School in Belmont, CA in 1960 and was employed by San Mateo County Department of Social Services.
Marty is survived by her husband William “Bill” Stone and two special pets, Daisey and Scamper.
Marty married Bill on December 26, 1971. After marrying, they moved many times to different parts of the country as Bill’s job required relocating.
Marty also worked in the managerial field in these locations. Bill’s job took them to Fairfax, Virginia, where she worked as office manager to the State Rehabilitations Department.
After retirement, Marty and Bill moved to Elkins in 1994, where they decided to make it their home.
She always wanted to be a part of “Almost Heaven, West Virginia”.
After moving to Elkins, Marty became very active in her church, Highland Park United Methodist Church and especially in her volunteer work with the United Way of Randolph County.
She was named United Way’s Outstanding Volunteer of the Year in 1999-2000 and was awarded the President’s Choice Award in 2006-2007.
She is survived by her only sister, Karla Neal Mahar and husband Richard. One niece, Jennifer Mahar Stelle and husband Michael and a nephew, David Mahar and wife Charrlyn, three great nieces and one great nephew. Marty was preceded in death by her parents, Edward T. and Mabel Ford Neal and her only child, Andrew Neal Stone. At Marty’s request, her wishes of cremation were honored.
A memorial service will be held at 1:00 P.M. Saturday, September 10, 2011 at the Highland Park United Methodist Church with Pastor Charles Stevens officiating.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions be made to the United Way of Randolph County, P. O. Box 1085, Elkins, WV 26241 in memory of Marty. The Tomblyn Funeral Home of Elkins is in charge of the arrangements for Martha Neal “Marty” Stone.
