Robert H. Fisher, age 67 years, a resident of Elkins, passed away Monday, May 16, 2011 in the Hospice Care Regional Inpatient Center in Elkins. He was born July 3, 1943 at Elkins, a son of the late Greydon and Hazel Reams Fisher. On September 13, 1966, he was married to the love of his life, Dora Summerfield Fisher who survives. Also surviving is one daughter, Patricia Mason and husband Michael of Bridgeport. Four sisters, Ellen Swartz, Michigan, Elsie Shoemaker, Evelyn White, and Janet Isner, all of Elkins, four brothers, William, David, Harold and Michael Fisher all of Elkins and several nieces and nephews also survive. Preceding him in death was one sister, Reba Bise.
Mr. Fisher worked for the West Virginia Department of Highways, the Metal Lab and Kermit Butcher Paving. Robert was well known as a left-handed pitcher in the fast-pitch softball games in the 1970’s when he played for various teams. He was an avid sportsman and enjoyed fishing, hunting and going to deer camp with his buddies. He enjoyed archery and along with his daughter competed in several festivals and tournaments. During the past few years, he enjoyed planting and working in his garden.
Friends may call from 5:00 PM until 8:00 PM Wednesday, May 18, 2011 at the Tomblyn Funeral Home in Elkins. A funeral service will be held at 11:00 AM Thursday, May 19th from the funeral home chapel with Verl Simmons officiating. Interment will follow in the Maplewood Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to the Hospice Care Regional Inpatient Center, c/o Hospice Care Corporation, PO Box 760, Arthurdale, WV 26520 in memory of Mr. Fisher.
