Delcy Teter 1916-2011 Obituary
Mrs. Delcy Teter, age 94 years, a resident of Colonial Place, Elkins, passed away Thursday, May 19th, 2011 at Colonial Place. She was born June 9, 1916 at Pikeville, KY, a daughter of the late George and Sylvana Zitch Messer. On December 11, 1964 at Boyce, VA, she was married to Percy “Grump” Teter who preceded her in death May 1981. She is survived by one stepdaughter, Margaret Smoot, of Woodlawn, MD and one sister, Avis Judd, of Greenfield, IN. Also surviving are six grandchildren, Charles and Curtis Johnson, of Baltimore, MD, Vincent Mullenax, Melissa Kilgore, and Christina Jackson, all of Elkins. Three step grandchildren, William Smooth, Jr., of Woodlawn, MD, Jane Smoot and Bonnie Deitz, both of Baltimore, MD. Eight great grandchildren, Joseph Johnson, of Tampa, FL, Megan Johnson, of Baltimore, MD, Ethan, Jessica, and Katherine Mullenax, all of Elkins, Alexander McGee, William Kilgore and Sydney Mullenax, all of Elkins. One great great granddaughter, Alexys Johnson. Also preceding her in death were one daughter, Betty Jo Johnson, son-in-law, Charles Thomas Johnson, one grandson, Thomas Duane Johnson, stepson, Leon Teter, step son-in-law, William Smooth and eleven sisters and brothers. Mrs. Teter retired from Stofberg Textiles where she worked as a seamstress.
Friends may call from 11:00 AM until 1:00 PM Monday, May 23, 2011 at the Tomblyn Funeral Home in Elkins. A funeral service will be held at 1:00 PM Monday from the funeral home chapel with Rev. Keith Carr officiating. Interment will follow in the American Legion’s Little Arlington Cemetery. In Lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Mountain Hospice, Inc., 1600 Crim Avenue, Belington, WV 26250 in memory of Mrs. Teter. The Tomblyn Funeral Home of Elkins is in charge of the arrangements for Mrs. Delcy Teter.
