Naomi Simmons, age 82 years, a resident of Elkins, passed away at 10:10 AM Wednesday, June 8, 2011 in the Hospice Care Regional Inpatient Center. She was born May 8, 1929 at Bowden, a daughter of the late John Keith and Emma Olive Coberly VanDevender. On May 10, 1947, she was married to Clyde Simmons who survives in Elkins. Also surviving is one daughter, Maureen Kittle and husband Mike, Harding, four grandchildren, Shellie Skidmore and husband Mark, Weaver, Angie Daniels and husband Darian, Beverly, Brandy Williams and Shana Simmons both of Belington. Five great grandchildren also survive, Brianna Witek, Parkersburg, Jesse Skidmore, Weaver, Lauren Rose Ray and Isabella Daniels both of Beverly and Austin Williams of Belington. Also preceding her in death was one son, Randall Shane Simmons, two brothers, Keith VanDevender and Ronald Eugene Clark and one sister, Juanita Bell Sharp. Mrs. Simmons was employed by Reserve Life Insurance for many years. She loved flowers, crocheting, work circle books and plastic canvas. She was a Methodist by Faith. Friends may call from 7:00 PM until 9:00 PM Friday, June 10, 2011 at the Tomblyn Funeral Home in Elkins. A funeral service will be held at 2:00 PM Saturday from the funeral home chapel with Rev. Johnny Paul Williams, II officiating. Interment will follow in the American Legion’s Little Arlington Cemetery. The Tomblyn Funeral Home of Elkins is in charge of the arrangements for Naomi Simmons.
