George K. Swecker, age 74, a resident of Valley Head, WV, passed from this life Monday, December 12, 2011, at his home. He had been in failing health since June and death was attributed to heart complications. George was born Wednesday, March 24, 1937 at Valley Head, a son of the late Kent Robert Swecker and Floda Elizabeth Kyle Swecker. On June 29, 1957, at Valley Head, George was married to the former Carolyn Jean Friel, who survives. Also left to cherish George’s memory is one son, Charles “Chuck” Swecker of Valley Head, one daughter, Pamela Dawn “Pam” Kinder and husband, Mark of Martinsburg, four grandchildren, Fred and Fletcher Kinder, Andrea Jean Sharp and Blair Ede Campbell and husband, Charlan, a son-in-law, Eugene Clark, two great grandchildren, Penelope Josephine Campbell and Oliver Campbell, two brothers, Jonas Neal Swecker of Morgantown and Bayard Lee Swecker of Keyser, and several nieces and nephews. Preceding George in death was one daughter, Penelope “Penny” Clark, one brother, Gary Joe Swecker, and three sisters, Winifred Dyche, Lucy Goodman, and Yvonne Clatterbuck. George attended the school at Valley Head and Tygarts Valley High School and had worked as a Ski Lift Supervisor for Snowshoe Mountain Resort having retired in 1999. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, and fly fishing, and he was a trustee for the Valley Head Cemetery for several years. George was a member of the Riverside Lodge #124, A.F. & A.M. of Cass, the Osiris Shrine Temple of Wheeling, and a lifelong member of the Valley Head United Methodist Church. George’s request for cremation was honored. A graveside memorial service will be held on Wednesday, December 21, 2011 at 1PM at the Valley Head Cemetery. Pastor Ann Fretwell will officiate and members of the Riverside Masonic Lodge #124, A.F. & A.M. will conduct ritualistic services. Interment will follow.
