Joan Mace Burke, age 75, a resident of Camp Springs, MD passed away April 15, 2011 at the University of Maryland Medical Center. She had been seriously ill for several months. She was born August 14, 1935 at Valley Head, a daughter of the late Norman and Iva Mace. She is survived by two sisters, Jean Yokum of Poquoson, Virginia and Janice Barthalow of Mill Creek, West Virginia; several nieces and nephews and a special friend E. L. Brown. She was preceded in death by her husband Wayne Burke and three brothers, Norman Mace, Jr. “Snappy,” Ray James Mace “Elmer” and Buhl Jennings Mace. She graduated from Tygart Valley High School and Clarksburg Business College. She retired from the Department of Commerce in Washington, D.C. Joan will be missed by her family and all her friends whom she made laugh whenever they were in her presence.
Friends will be received from 6 P.M. until 8 P.M. Friday, April 22, 2011 at the Tomblyn Funeral Home of Elkins. A funeral service will be held at 11:00 A.M. Saturday, April 23, 2011 from the funeral home chapel with Rev. Ann Fretwell officiating. Interment will follow at the Valley Head Cemetery.
