Mr. R.V. “Slim” Thompson, age 91 years, a resident of Huttonsville, passed away Friday evening, March 4, 2011 at the Rosewood Skilled Care Facility in Grafton, WV. He was born April 10, 1919 at Volga, WV a son of the late Truman Ivan and Mary Jemima Zirkle Thompson. On November 1, 1944, he was united in marriage to Georgia Ann Wagner, who preceded him in death. He is survived by a daughter, Sharon L. Wood, Huttonsville, one son, Michael S. Thompson and wife Darlene, Huttonsville, and two grandchildren, Mrs. Pete E. (Anita) Tacy, II and Stuart M. Thompson all of Huttonsville.

Slim served in the United States Navy from 1941 through World War II until 1947. He was employed as a Conservation Officer in Lewis County from 1950 until 1952 and Barbour County from 1952 until 1956. In 1957 he became the Superintendent of Kumbrabow State Forest, a position he held until his retirement in 1983. He loved reading, especially about the Civil War, hunting, fishing and fly-tying. He loved sharing knowledge with young people and was an honorary member of the FFA at Tygart Valley High School.

Friends may call from 6:00 PM until 8:00 PM Tuesday, March 8, 2011 at the Tomblyn Funeral Home in Elkins. A funeral service will be held at 1:00 PM Wednesday, March 9th from the funeral home chapel with Rev. Bonnie Starkey officiating. Interment will follow in the Mingo Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to a charity of choice in memory of Mr. Thompson. The Tomblyn Funeral Home of Elkins is in charge of the arrangements for Mr. R.V. “Slim” Thompson.
