Virginia Agnes Hammond, age 84 years, a resident of Taneytown, Maryland and formerly a resident of Mill Creek, died suddenly on Wednesday, February 23, 2011 at the University of Maryland Shock Trauma Center in Baltimore, Maryland following an accident. She was born April 12, 1926 in Parsons, WV the daughter of the late Leland and Gladys (Croshun) Burkey. She was predeceased in death by her husband Paul Hammond in 1996. Virginia was of the Methodist faith and loved attending church and listening to old time gospel music. She loved spending time with her family and friends.
Surviving her are sons, Bob Clingerman and wife Elaine, of Fallston, MD, Ronald C. Hammond, Sr. and wife Christine, of Taneytown, MD. Also surviving are sixteen grandchildren, twenty eight great-grandchildren and six great-great-grandchildren and one son-in-law, Ray Harris. Also preceding her in death were two daughters, Linda Harris and Connie Dingus.
Friends may call from 5:00 PM until 8:00 PM Sunday, February 27, 2011 at the Tomblyn Funeral Home of Elkins. A funeral service will be held at 10:30 AM Monday, February 28, 2011 from the funeral home chapel with Rev. Randy Long officiating. Interment will follow in the Mountain State Memorial Gardens in Elkins. The Tomblyn Funeral Home of Elkins is in charge of the arrangements for Virginia Agnes Hammond.
