Maude Cleo Chewning Wamsley, age 93 years, a resident of Mill Creek, passed away Saturday morning, January 15, 2011 at the Elkins Regional Convalescent Center. She was born September 29, 1917 at Mill Creek, a daughter of the late Elihu Lee Chewning and Ester Ann Shiflett Chewning. On January 8, 1940 at Virginia, she was married to Gerald “Bill” Wamsley, who preceded her in death on May 20, 1985. Surviving are two sons, Robert L. Wamsley and wife Linda and Roger L. Wamsley and wife Debbie, all of Mill Creek, four daughters; Sandra L. Haden and Husband Marvin of Beverly, Betty A. Pritt and Toni Croston and husband Stanley, all of Mill Creek and Sherry “Lynn” Sprinkel and husband Randy of Valley Bend. Twenty three grandchildren, forty seven great grandchildren and several great-great grandchildren also survive. Also preceding her in death was one son, Darrell Wamsley, two brothers, O’dell “Bud” Chewning and Lonnie Chewning and two sisters, Agatha “Kate” Smith and Edna Chewning.
Mrs. Wamsley was a homemaker, a loving mother and wife. She was a Methodist by faith.
Friends may call from 6:00 P.M. until 8:00 P.M. Monday, January 17, 2011 at the Tomblyn Funeral Home in Elkins. A funeral service will be held at 11:00 A.M. Tuesday, January 18th from the funeral home chapel with Pastor Ken Shiflet officiating. Interment will follow at the Brick Church Cemetery at Huttonsville. The family suggests memorial contributions be made to the Elkins Regional Convalescent Center Activity Fund, 1175 Beverly Pike, Elkins, WV 26241 or Hospice Care Corporation, P.O.
