WILLIAM ELLIS “WILL” CURRENCE, age 52 years, a resident of the Cravensdale Community, Elkins, WV departed this life early Friday morning, November 11, 2011 at the Cleveland Clinic at Cleveland, OH surrounded by his family. He had been in declining health for the past two years and had been considered critical for the past eight months.
He was born Thursday, May 28, 1959 at Elkins, WV a son of the late Esaw and Martha Patricia Currence and his stepfather, Lee Fincham and a grandson of the late Lynda Herron Walker. On November 10, 1986, he united with his lifelong companion, Gladys L. Howell, of Elkins, who survives. Also surviving are his step daughter, Tonya Swecker and husband Sean, Beverly; four sisters, Mary Lauer and husband Mark, Huttonsville; Elizabeth Russ, Elkins; Angela “Pearl” Atkinson and husband David, Beverly; Patricia Currence, Mill Creek, one brother; Austin Currence and wife Teresa, Mill Creek; six step grandchildren, Shai Swecker; Gracee Swecker; and Mason Swecker; all of Beverly; Paul Armentrout; Jeremy Armentrout; and Chenaya Armentrout; all of NC; one aunt, Janet Hosaflook, Mill Creek; nineteen nieces and nephews; and twenty two great nieces and nephews.
Preceding him in death are one step daughter; Sonya Armentrout.
He was a graduate of Tygart’s Valley High School with the Class of 1978, had worked for Armstrong Wood Products for thirteen years and was currently employed at the Huttonsville Correctional Center as a correctional officer.
Will was a baseball enthusiast and played on the 1977-78 Tygart’s Valley High School baseball team that won the state championship. He enjoyed the outdoors and was an avid hunter and softball player before his illness. He had two pets, CK and Bubba, who he loved very much.
The family will receive friends at the Lohr & Barb Funeral Home of Elkins from 5 to 8 PM, Tuesday. Final Rites will be conducted at the funeral home chapel, Wednesday, November 16, 2011 at 1:30 PM. The Rev. Tristan Tenney, a family friend will officiate and interment will follow at the Brick Church Cemetery at Huttonsville, WV.
