GERTRUDE LOUISE FEASENMEIR BENNETT, age 85 years, a resident of Jimtown, WV departed this life Monday November 7, 2011 at Valentine Personal Care Home in Elkins.
She was born Friday, November 5, 1926 at Coalton, WV, a daughter of the late Arthur Benjamin and Mary Ellen O’Conner Feasenmeir. On December 7, 1940 at Sand Run she was married to Bernard Harding Bennett who preceded her in death on February 26, 1983. Surviving are one son, Kenneth B. Bennett and wife Sandra of Jimtown; two daughters, Thelma Louise Wyatt of Richmond, VA, Sharon Ann Elza of Elkins; a daughter in law, Patricia Bennett of Jimtown; a special nephew, Mickey Phillips and wife Charlotte of Jimtown; three half-brothers, Junior, Amuel and George Feasenmeir; and three half-sisters, Betty Bibey of Belington, Thresa Evans of Philippi and Minnie Holsberry of Montrose; thirteen grandchildren; fourteen great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
Preceding her in death are one son, Michael David Bennett; two sisters Anna Mae Phillips and Mary Wilson and two son in laws, James Wyatt and Earl Elza.
Gertrude was known to her family, friends and neighbors as “Granny”. She attended the schools of Randolph County and was a successful Tupperware saleswoman in the 1970’s and 1980’s. She was a member of the St. Patrick’s Catholic Church of Coalton. Gertrude enjoyed crafting and gardening, and she loved spending time with her family, especially making hot rolls for family dinners.
The family will receive friends on Wednesday from 5 PM to 8 PM at the Lohr & Barb Funeral Home of Elkins. Final Rites will be conducted at the funeral home chapel on Thursday November 10, 2011 at 11:30 AM. The Very Reverend Donald X. Higgs, VF will officiate and interment will follow and the Phillips Chapel Cemetery at Jimtown.
