RONALD DALE IRONS, age 81 years, a resident of Elkins, WV departed this life Monday afternoon December 5, 2011 at the Davis Memorial Hospital in Elkins following a brief illness.
He was born Sunday, July 20, 1930 at Parsons, WV a son of the late Earl Leon Irons and Greta Marie Lipscomb Irons. On July 4, 1966 at Belington, WV he was married to Exie Lou Singleton, who survives in Elkins, and whom with he enjoyed forty five happy years of marriage.
Also surviving are two sons, Timothy Allen Irons and wife Dedriah of Upper St. Clair, PA; and Craig Lynn Irons and wife Amy of Mt. Lebanon, PA; one daughter, Heidi Sue and husband Rusty Nichols of Shepherdstown; one brother, Bishop Neil Leon Irons and wife Susan Thomas of Mechanicsburg, PA; and one sister, Lois Ellen and husband Herschel Kessler of Elkins; also seven grandchildren: Aaron Scott Irons of Georgia; Dr. Jessica Greta-marie Irons of Harrisonburg, VA; Cooper Allen Irons of Upper St. Clair, PA; Alberto Jeffrey Irons and Edward Stephen Irons of Mt. Lebanon, PA; and Hannah Claire Nichols and Brogan Thomas Nichols of Shepherdstown.
Preceding him death are two sons, Steven Mark Irons and Thomas Earl Irons.
A resident of Elkins for most of his life, Ron attended the Randolph County Schools. He was employed by Kelly Foundry in Elkins for 20 years and he also worked for T & K Auto Sales. He was a member of the Otterbein United Methodist Church, where he served as an usher for more than 30 years. He was a member of the Elkins Lodge # 108 A.F. & A.M.
Those who knew Ron were well aware of his passion for cars and driving, his infectious sense of humor, his avid interest in weather, and his ability to readily strike up conversations with new people.
The family will receive friends at the Lohr & Barb Funeral Home of Elkins on Wednesday, December 7, 2011 from 6 PM to 9 PM. On Thursday morning December 8, 2011, Mr. Irons will be moved to the Otterbein United Methodist Church, where friends may call from 10 AM to 11 AM, the funeral hour. The Rev. Jim Murphy will officiate and interment will follow at the Maplewood Cemetery at Elkins, WV. The family suggests that expressions of sympathy be in the form of contributions to the Otterbein United Methodist Church Roof Fund, 1100 South Davis Avenue, Elkins, WV 26241.
