Edis Ann Upton 1936-2011 Obituary
Edis Ann Upton, 74, of Philippi, died Friday, January 21, in the United Hospital Center, Bridgeport, following and extended illness.
She was born November 14, 1936, at Philippi, a daughter of the late Flay “Bus” and Nola Olive (Poling) Boyles.
On September 20, 1958, she was married to Frederick Jackson Upton, who preceded her in death on April 6, 1996.
Survivors include one daughter, Rosa Grose and husband, Wendell, Volga; one son Ronial Upton and wife Tabitha, Philippi; a brother, Richard Lee Boyles, in Delaware; a sister, Louise Belle Reed, Harrisonburg, VA; eight grandchildren, Aaron Grose, Laura Grose, Benjamin Allen Upton, Sarah Michelle Upton, Jeremy Upton, Brenda and Kevin Upton (twins) and Tamela “Ashley” Light.
She was also preceded in death by one brother, Buey Dale Boyles and by one sister, Margaret Belle Alexander Monte.
Mrs. Upton was a homemaker.
She had been employed as a Foster Grandparent through Potomac Highland and had formerly worked for the Barbour County Schools, Reidbord Brothers, Heart and Hand House and Kingsford Charcoal.
She was also licensed as an independent minister and had served as pastor of a church at Berryburg and preached in several other Pentecostal Churches.
She had served as a Cub Scout Den Mother.
She most recently attended Faith Fellowship Chapel near Philippi.
Funeral services will be conducted at 2:00 P.M. on Thursday, November 27, from the Stemple & Forman Funeral Home, 385 So. Main Street, Philippi.
The Rev. Joe Carl Delauder will officiate and interment will follow in the Central Chapel Cemetery.
Friends may call at the funeral home from 7:00 until 9:00 P.M. on Wednesday and from 9:00 until 2:00 P.M., the funeral hour on Thursday.
