Obituary: HANSON J. “DUKE” KENNEDY Hanson J. “Duke” Kennedy, 62, of Philippi, died Monday evening, December 12, at his home. His death was unexpected. He was born June 12, 1949, at Philippi, a son of Beulah Mae (Croston) Kennedy Adams, who survives at Rt. #1, Moatsville and the late Jesse Kennedy. Also surviving are his wife of 41 years, the former Alma Lee Mayle, Philippi; two sons, Jesse Brian Kennedy and wife Christine, Moatsville, Anthony Sylvester Kennedy and wife, Amanda, Slovan, PA; two brothers, Enoch “Ricky” Kennedy and wife Connie, Moatsville, Teddy Kennedy and wife, Patricia, Philippi; three step-brothers, Michael Adams and wife Velma, Everlyn Lee Adams and wife, Linda, Lendell D. Adams and wife, Linda, all of Philippi; four grandchildren, Jesse Cole Kennedy, Emma Grace Kennedy, Katie Lynn Kennedy and Rabekha Gwen Kennedy. He was also preceded in death by two half-brothers, Fax Kennedy and Emwood Kennedy and by his step-father, Everlyn E. Adams Jr. Mr. Kennedy was a 1967 graduate of Philip Barbour High School and had attended Fairmont State College. He was retired from the U. S. Department of Agriculture Soil Conservation and Stabilization Service where he had been employed as a Civil Engineer Technician. He attended the Olive Hill Wesleyan Methodist Church and was an avid hunter and fisherman. He was an avid sports fan and enjoyed spending time with his children and grandchildren. Funeral services will be conducted at 1:00 P.M. on Friday, December 16, 2011 from the Stemple & Forman Funeral Home, 385 So. Main Street, Philippi. The Rev. Charles McDonald and Mr. William Berdine will officiate and interment will follow in the Welch Cemetery, where Military Rites will be conferred. Friends may call at the funeral home from 7:00 until 9:00 P.M. on Wednesday, from 9:00 A.M. until 9:00 P.M. on Thursday and from 9:00 A.M. until 1:00 P.M., the funeral hour, on Friday.
