Berne Leon Price, 85, of Belington, died Saturday morning, December 17, in the Monongalia General Hospital, Morgantown, following an brief illness. He was born February 17, 1925, at Belington, a son of the late Otis and Ada Louise (Ramsey) Price. On May 13, 1950, he married the former Loretta Louise Nazelrod, who survives at the Belington. Also surviving are two daughters, Kathy Louise Keefer, and Tammy Hill and husband, Kevin, all of Belington; one sister, Martha Rae Gainer, Clarksburg; one half-sister, Charlotte Summerfield, Greenville, S.C.; two granddaughters, Kara Keefer and Shannon Jones; one great granddaughter, Brooklyn Kylie Keefer. Mr. Price was a veteran of World War II, serving with the U.S. Army. In the European theater he served in the Field Artillery and was involved in the relocation of survivors of the Nazi death camps. In the Philippines, he served as an ambulance driver and operated a Diamond T 6 x 6 truck. He also served as a military policeman in the occupation of Japan. He retired as manager of the Alcoholic Beverage Control Commission store in Belington and was a lifelong farmer. He was a member of Laurel Mountain Post #410, V.F. W. and Belington Post 96, American Legion. Funeral services will be conducted at 1:00 P.M. on Tuesday, December 20, from the Schoonover – Stemple Funeral Chapel. The Rev. Joseph Bowen will officiate and interment will follow in the Belington Fraternal Cemetery where military rites will be conferred. Friends may call at the funeral home from 4 :00 until 9:00 P.M. on Monday and from 9:00 A.M. until 1:00 P.M., the funeral hour on day on Tuesday.
