Dale Franklin Phillips, 73, a resident of Montrose, passed from this life Sunday afternoon, November 17, 2013 at the Louis A. Johnson VA Medical Center in Clarksburg. Dale was born Wednesday, February 28, 1940 in Parsons, a son of the late George Phillips and Gladys Lula Bright Phillips. On November 23, 1966, he was married to Josephine Kisamore Phillips who preceded him in death on January 16, 1997. Left to cherish Dale’s memory are his five children, Karen Harper and companion, Ed Calain of Montrose, Steve Judy and wife, Patty of Mannington, Don Judy and wife, Kathy of Parsons, Sheila Goss and companion, Charles Johnson of Parsons, and Darlene Williams and husband, Donald of Montrose, two sisters, Virginia Yocum and Irene Knotts, two brothers, Bob Phillips and Harold Phillips, fourteen grandchildren, Melinda, Scott and wife, Heather, Eric, Bethany, Zachary and companion, Tosha, Adam and companion, Misty, Andy, Tina, Kallie, Kassidy and companion, Cody, Eli, Chris, and Becca and husband, Robbie, Aric and wife, Whitney, twelve great grandchildren, Emily, Lukas, Donte, Corbin, Chelsea, Morgan, McKinley, Brayden, Hailey, Zana, Celina, and Koalton, and several nieces and nephews. Dale was preceded in death by two infant sisters, and three brothers, Orlan “Poncho” Phillips, Denver “Bud” Phillips, and Roy “Soccum” Phillips. Dale was a graduate of Parsons High School with the class of 1958 where he played all school sports, excelling in football and basketball, and had served with the United States Army. He had worked as a laborer with the Clarksburg Laborer’s Union. He loved playing poker and going to flea markets. Dale never met a stranger. He will be greatly missed by all who knew him, especially his great grandchildren, whom he dearly loved. Visitation will be held at the Summerfield Funeral Home on Wednesday from 5 until 7 PM. Funeral services will be held at the funeral home chapel on Thursday, November 21, 2013 at 11AM. Rev. Kevin Gainer will officiate and interment will follow at the Parsons City Cemetery where member of the HW Daniels Post #29, American Legion, Tygarts Valley Post #3647, Veterans of Foreign Wars, Tucker County Veterans Association and the WV Honor Guard will provide full military honors.
