Dorothy Ellen Robinson Campbell, 93, a lifelong resident of Parsons, and for the past four years, a resident of Colonial Place in Elkins, passed from this life early Friday morning, March 7, 2014 at the nursing home. Dorothy was born Sunday, October 24, 1920 in Parsons, a daughter of the late Henry Gassaway Robinson and Nina V. Nestor Robinson. On June 4, 1961, she was married to John Campbell who preceded her in death on January 22, 2005. Left to cherish Dorothy’s memory is her daughter, Arlene Snyder and husband, Steven of Roanoke Rapids, NC, her three grandchildren, Lauren D. Snyder, Steven Alexander Snyder, and Christopher Andrew Snyder, and several nieces, nephews, and friends. Dorothy was the last surviving member of her immediate family having been preceded in death by her brother, John Robinson and her sister, Madeline Lucy Griffith Dorothy attended the schools of Tucker County, had worked at the Parsons Tannery, the Half-price Store, and the A&P where she spent twenty-seven years before retiring in 1975. She was a homemaker and enjoyed canning and gardening having entered her produce in the Tucker County Fair for many years. She was an active member of the 4-h Leaders, a former member of the Order of the Eastern Star, had been a lifetime member of the Beekeepers Association, and was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Parsons. Visitation will be held at the Summerfield Funeral Home of Parsons on Sunday from 4PM until 6PM. Funeral services will be held from the funeral home chapel on Monday, March 10, 2014 at 11AM. Rev. Jeff Anderson will officiate and interment will follow at the Bethel Cemetery in the Holly Meadows community of Parsons.
