Jerry Carr, 71, a resident of Elkins, passed from this life Saturday, September 27, 2014 at Elkins Rehabilitation and Care Center in Elkins. Jerry was born Saturday, March 20, 1943 in Elkins, a son of the late Orval Lawrence Carr and Arbutus Barkley Carr. On July 14, 1967, in Elkins, he married the former Dorothy Carolyn Day who preceded him in death in 2012. Left to cherish Jerry’s memory is one daughter, Cindy Carr, one grandson, Bryan Wilson both of Elkins, one brother, Jack Carr and wife Brenda of Elkins and two sisters, Melva Jean Iseli and husband Neil of GA and Shirley Booth of VA. Preceding Jerry in death besides his parents and wife were two brothers, Donald Lawrence and Jimmy Carr and one sister, Mildred Ruth Slayton. Jerry attended the schools of Randolph County and was a graduate of Elkins High School. He will best be remembered for his countless years of volunteering at the YMCA in Elkins. Jerry was a foster grandparent at North Elementary School and Grandpa Jerry loved all the children. He was an athlete and loved to participate in marathons. Jerry loved the Lord and was a member of the First Church of Christ in Elkins. Jerry’s request for cremation was honored. A memorial service will be held Sunday, October 19, 2014 at 3:00P at the First Church of Christ in Elkins.
