Margaret Kathleen Galford Helmick, 86, a former resident of Parsons, and for the past four years, a resident of Cortland Acres Nursing Home passed from this life late Tuesday evening, December 16, 2014 at the nursing home. Margaret was born on Sunday, December 9, 1928 in Mineral County, WV, a daughter of the late Arthur Galford and Sarah Cassell Galford. On July 14, 1945 at Red House, MD, she was married to Samuel F. Helmick who preceded her in death on February 8, 1968. Left to cherish Margaret’s memory are three children, Russell Helmick and wife, Trudy, Carolyn Sherman and husband, Phil, and Phyllis Kidwell and husband, Neal, a daughter-in-law, Linda Helmick, six grandchildren, Pam Knotts, Ronda Adkins and husband, Mike, Josh Kidwell and wife, Alicia, Erin Bonner, Amanda Padilla-garcia and husband, Pablo, and Samantha Close, six great grandchildren, Sarah Dibacco and husband, Ryan, Michael Adkins, Travis Knotts, Lindsey Knotts, Gabriella Padilla-garcia, and Cayley Kidwell, two great great grandchildren, Taylynn Knotts and Tristan Allen Knotts, and several nieces and nephews. Margaret was the last surviving member of her immediate family having been preceded in death by a son, Harold E. Helmick, four brothers, Frank, William, Harry, and Jack, and three sisters, Leona, Mary, and Aretta. Margaret attended the schools of Maryland and had worked for Parsons Footwear and as a Senior Companion for the Tucker County Senior Center. She enjoyed reading and loved spending time with her family. She was a Jehovah’s Witness. Margaret’s request for cremation was honored.
