Kenneth “Kenny” Neal Shannon, Sr., 73, a resident of Beverly, passed from this life Thursday evening, December 11, 2014 at Hospice Regional Inpatient Center in Elkins surrounded by his family and friends. Kenny was born Thursday, April 10, 1941 in Valley Bend, a son of the late Hiram Shannon and Reva Kittle Shannon. On October 30, 1970 at Mill Creek, he was married to the former Carolyn “Suzie” Westerfield, who survives. Others left to cherish Kenny’s memory is one son, Keith Neal Shannon, Jr., and friend, Kenneth Miklich and one daughter, Sara Marie Rowe and husband, Billy, all of Beverly, one sister, Geneva Harris and husband, Denver of Mill Creek, three brothers, Bob Shannon and wife, Shirley of Arnoldsurg, Harmon Shannon and wife, Esther of Beverly, and Benjamin Shannon of Clarksburg, five grandchildren, Travis Beam, Katie Rowe, Gracie Rowe, Cheyenne Shannon, and Devon Collins, three loving nieces, Frances Wimer of Texas, Lois Rosier of Montrose, and Louise Armstrong of Beverly, and several other nieces, nephews, and close friends. Preceding Kenny in death was one son, Michael D. Shannon, four brothers, Charles, Nelson, Morris, and Owen, and five sisters, Velma Shannon, Helen Arbogast, Hali Foster, Ruby Swanson, and Margorie Snelson. Kenny attended the schools of Randolph County, and had served in the United States Army during Vietnam with the Big Red 1 Infantry. Prior to retiring from the WV Dept. of Highways, Kenny was a coalminer for fifteen years. He was an avid hunter, fisherman, trapper, and ginsenger. Visitation will be held at the Randolph Funeral Home on Monday, December 15, 2014 from 11AM until 1PM, the funeral hour. The Rev. Rick Price will officiate and interment will follow in Brick Church Cemetery in Huttonsville.
