Gatha Lee Hamrick Wamsley, 85, a resident of Mill Creek, passed from this life Saturday, November 15, 2014 at Ruby Memorial Hospital. She had been in her usual health and death was unexpected. Gatha was born Monday, February 18, 1929 in Valley Head, a daughter of the late Earnest Bruce Hamrick and Juanita Glenn Simmons Hamrick. On October 13, 1945, she was married to Charles “Denver” Wamsley, who survives. Others left to cherish Gatha’s memory are her two sons, Charles W. Wamsley and wife, Mary of Elkins, and Randall J. Wamsley and wife, Deborah of Frostburg, MD, two sisters, Vera Cutright and husband, Archie of Ohio and Carla E. Kiess and husband Melvin of Beverly, two brothers, Philip N. Lantz and wife, Margaret of Elkins, and Jennings E. Lantz and wife, Karen of Ohio, one sister-in-law, Ruth Hamrick, five grandchildren, Travis, Chad, Sean, Greg, and Lesley, eight great grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews. Preceding Gatha in death was an infant son, Robert Denver Wamsley, one brother, Audis B. Hamrick, and three sisters, Jean Blanford, Letha Weese, and Lynn Graziani. Gatha attended the schools of Randolph County and had worked at Tygarts Valley High School and retired as head cook after fifteen years. She was an avid reader, enjoyed quilting, was a dedicated homemaker and an excellent cook. She always went out of her way to help others, and had been honored as the “Mill Creek Mother of the Year” for the annual Mother’s Day Celebration. She was a protestant by faith. Visitation will be at the Randolph Funeral Home on Wednesday, November 19, 2014 from 11AM until 1PM, the funeral hour. Pastor Jack Howell will officiate and interment will follow in the Brick Church Cemetery in Huttonsville.
