Marietta Marie Wimer Brake, age 96 years, a resident Serenity Care Home in Buckhannon, West Virginia passed away on August 12, 2014. She was born December 15, 1917 in Frenchton, WV, the daughter of Lamon and Nellie Crawford Wimer of Frenchton, WV. She married Frank Edgar Brake in 1936 and was the mother of Gladys Louise Brake Olds Denning – both deceased. Marie is survived by three sisters: Luella Hurd of Akron, Ohio, Iris Mae Swecker and husband, Bill, of Buckhannon, West Virginia and Jean Samples of Mansfield, Ohio. She was preceded in death by two brothers, Willard Wimer and Robert Wimer and by three sisters: Grace Crites, Rosalie Alderman and Ruth Mollahan. She is also survived by her two grandsons, Daniel Ray Olds, Jr. and his wife Tracy Freeman Olds of The Woodlands, Texas and Bradley Arthur Denning of Metter, Georgia; by her two great-grandchildren, Tasha Marie Olds Proske and husband Curtis A. Proske of The Woodlands, Texas and Kendyl Lane Olds Beaird and husband James D. Beaird of Spring, Texas; by her great-great-grandchildren, Bella Rayne Proske and Scarlett Chase Proske of The Woodlands, Texas. Marie retired from Saga Dining Services as a cook for West Virginia Wesleyan College. She was a member of the Teter CEOS. She will be missed by her many good friends in her “Club”. She was an avid gardener and her previous home at 5 Monongalia Street has been in the Record-delta a number of times for the beautiful yard that she and Frank lovingly maintained. She was exceptionally proud that she was able to maintain her home and lived there until her 92nd year when an illness and poor eyesight required her move to Serenity Care Home. Friends will be received Friday, August 15, 2014 from 4-9 PM at the Poling-st. Clair Funeral Home. A funeral service will be held 2:30 PM Saturday at the funeral home with the Rev. Nancy Killingsworth officiating. Burial will follow in the Rock Cave Cemetery in Rock Cave, WV. Poling-st. Clair Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
