LILLY KATHRYN MORAN CARVER, age 98 years, a former resident of North Randolph Avenue and the Elkins Manor, departed this life Sunday morning, April 3, 2011 at the Elkins Rehabilitation & Care Center.
She was born Tuesday, March 25, 1913 at Highland Park, WV a daughter of the late Gordon Cecil Moran and Eva Lena England Moran. On November 26, 1932 at Elkins, WV she was married to Leslie Ray Carver, who preceded her in death February 10, 1982. Surviving are an adopted sister, Faye Moran and husband Roger, Walls of Camden, SC; one niece, Pat White Marsh and husband Richard, Reynoldsburg, OH; seven grandchildren, Douglas Buschman and wife Nancy, North Potomac, MD; Chris A. Carver and wife Suzy, Lexington, SC; Crystal Carver Robinson and husband Jay, St. Matthews, SC; Michael Magoc and wife Delores, Elkins; Marcy Creek, Elkins; David Magoc and wife Arlene, Clovis, CA; and Richard Carver; seventeen great grandchildren; four great great grandchildren; and nine step grandchildren. Also surviving are a daughter in law, Mary Frances Heck Carver, Orangeburg, SC; a son in law, Frank Magoc, Tarentum, PA; two sisters in law, Mary Moran, Hyannis, NE; Jean Kesler, Columbia, SC; and a special granddaughter, Michelle Messer, Elkins.
Preceding her in death are two sons, William Ray “Bill” Carver and his wife Hope; Donald Keith Carver; one daughter, Martha Lena Carver Magoc and two infant children, Smarie Lee Carver and Leslie Gordon Carver; one sister; four brothers and one granddaughter.
Mrs. Carver retired from Davis Memorial Hospital in 1972 with twenty-seven years of service. She was a member of the First Baptist Church and was a 1984 Randolph County Belle. She was a member of the Randolph County Senior Center, where she was a member of the Center’s bowling league for many years as well as the Melody Chorus. She was a long time member of the Elkins Rehabilitation & Care Center Auxiliary was a member of the 8 & 40 of the American Legion, the VFW Ladies Auxiliary and the American Legion Ladies Auxiliary. On October 3, 2008 at ninety-five years of age she was inducted into the WV Voter Hall of Fame. In 2010 at ninety-seven years of age she was honored as the oldest member of the Elkins High School Alumni Association.
Much appreciation is given to her granddaughter, Michelle Messer and the staff of the Elkins Rehabilitation & Care Center, her doctors and to all her family and friends who loved and cared for her.
Mrs. Carver had a passion for travel and enjoyed many trips. She always found time to send a card or give a call to those who were sick or celebrating a birthday or anniversary. She loved to read, especially the Elkins Inter-mountain. She loved yellow roses, followed WVU Sports and the Pittsburgh Steelers. She will be sadly missed by her family and all who loved her. She will forever remain in our hearts.
The family will receive friends at the Lohr & Barb Funeral Home of Elkins on Thursday, April 7, 2011 from 12 Noon to 2 PM, the funeral hour. The Rev. Dr. Basil A. Hensley will officiate and interment will follow at the Mountain State Memorial Gardens at Gilman, WV.
