Raymond Paul Canfield, Jr., age 67 years, a resident of Elkins, WV departed this life, Monday, June 20, 2011. Death was unexpected.
He was born Monday, May 29, 1944 at Elkins, WV a son of the late Raymond Paul Canfield, Sr., and Stella May Herron Phillips. On June 21, 1969 at Midlothian, MD he was married to the former Mary Jane Reed, who survives.
Surviving are two daughters, Cynthia Jane “Cindy” Carnes and husband William “Shane” of Longs, SC; and Tiffany Rae Vance and husband Tommy of Katy, TX, four grandchildren, Avery Carnes, Trent, Tanner, and Taylen Vance; and one brother-in-law, Albert “Al” Clemente’ of OH.
He is preceded in death by one sister, Ruth Clemente’.
Raymond attended the schools of Randolph County, and was a graduate of Elkins High School with the class of 1963. He was a veteran of the Army National Guard; was a Correctional Officer at the Huttonsville Correctional Facility for twenty-eight years; and was a member of the Elkins Lodge # 108 A.F. & A.M, the Scottish Rite of Clarksburg and the Osiris Temple at Wheeling. He was an avid Hunter and fisherman, was a devoted Nascar fan and Harley Davidson enthusiast, enjoyed yard sales and was a member of the Elkins Volunteer Fire Department. He was known for taking lunch to a different friend every day.
The family will receive friends at the Lohr & Barb Funeral Home of Elkins from 5 to 8 PM, Tuesday. The casket will remain closed. Final Rites will be conducted at the funeral home chapel, Wednesday, July 6, 2011 at 11:30 AM. Pastor Jerry Murrell will officiate and interment will follow at the Elkins Memorial Gardens, on the Airport Road, Elkins, WV.
