DESSIE GAYE MOORE JONES 1920-2011 Obituary
DESSIE GAYE MOORE JONES, age 91 years, a former resident of St. George, WV, and more recently a resident of Fincastle, VA, where she made her home with her daughter Ronda Grose, departed this life early Monday morning, August 8, 2011 at the Roanoke Memorial Hospital at Roanoke, VA.
She was born Thursday April 1, 1920, at St. George, WV, a daughter of the late Charlie Howard and Velva Myrtle Martin Moore. On October 22, 1936 at Parsons, WV, she was married to Ellis Ford Jones, who preceded her in death February 14, 1992. They had celebrated fifty five years of marriage.
Surviving are one son, Clifford Eugene Jones and wife Sandy of Parsons; two daughters, Nora Gaye Nestor and Richard of Rivesville, WV, and Ronda Alice Grose and husband John of Fincastle, VA; one brother, Howard Murl Moore of St. George; four sisters, Belvia Stella Gooden of PA, Edna Grace Auvil of Elkins, Mary Virginia Shingleton of Ohio, and Eva Annalou Phillips and husband Kenny of Parsons: seven grandchildren; eleven great grandchildren and six great great grandchildren.
Preceding her in death are three brothers, Earl Moore, Brown Moore and Walter Moore.
She attended the one room Murphy School at Clover Run. She was an employee of the former Tucker County Hospital and the former Parsons Footwear. She was a member of the Pifer Mountain Church, where she had served as Trustee. She was a member of the Clover Run Homemakers. She loved being outdoors working in her garden and her flowers. She was a wonderful cook and a very hard dedicated worker.
The family will receive friends at the Lohr & Barb Funeral Home of Parsons on Thursday from 5 to 8 PM. Final rites will be conducted at the funeral home parlor on Friday, August 12, 2011 at 1:30PM. Rev Pat Cassidy will officiate and interment will follow at the Pifer Mountain Cemetery at St. George, WV.
