PAULINE MILDRED KALAR SHERMAN, age 96 years, a resident of Parsons, WV, departed this life Saturday evening August 27, 2011 at her home, surrounded by her family.
She was born Friday, March 12, 1915 at Porterwood, WV, a daughter of the late Spencer Grant Kalar and Sarah Katherine Price Kalar. On December 27, 1932 at Oakland, Md, she was married to Zelan Delmar “Zeke” Sherman, who preceded her in death.
Surviving are two sons, Craig Z. Sherman and companion, Don Daniel of OK, Ernest “Mac” Sherman and wife Linda of Parsons; one daughter, Linda Lee Sams and husband Owen “Hardrock” of IN; nine grandchildren, nine great grandchildren and several great great grandchildren. Two special granddaughters, Mindy and Misti, whom took tender loving care for their grandmother.
She is the last surviving member of her immediate family having been preceded in death by one son, Hampton Grant Sherman; one daughter, Carol June Helmick; one brother, Mark William Kalar; six sisters, Della Gressen, Ada Mae Oxider, Etta Ray Thomas, Hazel Gay Smith, Lena Alice McCourt and Margurite Poling.
She was a graduate of Parsons High School with the Class of 1933. She was an employee of the former Dorman Mills. She was a former employee of the Tucker County Board of Education working as a cook and she attended St. Paul’s United Methodist Church at Parsons. She was an avid Bingo player, gardener, homemaker, and dog lover
The family will receive friends at the Lohr & Barb Funeral Home of Parsons on Tuesday from 5 to 8 PM. Final rites will be conducted at the funeral home parlor on Wednesday, August 31, 2011 at 2 PM. The Rev. J. Michael Lantz will officiate and interment will follow at the Parsons City Cemetery at Parsons, WV.
