JOHN THOMAS KING, age 85 years, a resident of the Limestone Community, St. George, WV departed this life early Saturday morning, August 20, 2011 at the Community Living Center at Loch Raven, Baltimore, MD. He had been in declining health for the past seven years.
He was born Friday, January 29, 1926 at Parsons, WV a son of the late Clyde and Amy Nestor King. On January 14, 1950 at Red House, MD he was married to the former Mary Louise Swisher, who survives. Also surviving are one daughter, Judy Horst and husband Pete, Baltimore, MD; two brothers, Joe King, Parsons; Clyde “Ed” King and wife Ruth, Cresaptown, MD; one sister, Phyllis Nestor, Baltimore, MD; one granddaughter, Nicole Jade Wiherle and husband Allan, Baltimore, MD; and one great granddaughter, Rylee Elizabeth Wiherle, Baltimore, MD.
Preceding him in death are one daughter, Sandra Kay King on May 2, 2011 and several brothers and sisters.
John was a graduate of Parsons High School, was a veteran of the U. S. Army serving during World War II and the Korean Conflict, had worked for many years as an Electrician for Bethlehem Steel at Sparrows Point, MD, was a member of the Pythagoras Lodge # 128, A.F. & A. M. of Parsons, the Scottish Rite of Clarksburg, the Osiris Temple of Wheeling, the former Garnett Post # 4322, Veteran’s of Foreign Wars of Parsons, where he had served as Past Commander and the Macedonia Methodist Church at St. George.
The family will receive friends at the Lohr & Barb Funeral Home of Parsons from 5 to 7 PM, Tuesday. Final Rites will be conducted at the funeral home parlor, Wednesday, August 24, 2011 at 11 AM. Rev. Pat Cassidy will officiate and interment will follow at the Mountain State Memorial Gardens at Gilman, WV where the H. W. Daniel’s Post # 29, American Legion, the Tygart’s Valley Post # 3647, Veterans of Foreign Wars and the Tucker County Veterans Association will conduct full military honors and the Pythagoras Lodge # 128, A.F. & A.M. of Parsons will conduct Masonic graveside rites.
