Ellwood “Fergie” Ferguson, Jr., 84 years of age was called home to be with his Lord and Savior Friday, February 8, 2013 at Ruby Memorial Hospital in Morgantown, WV. Death was attributed to complications from surgery after a fall at his home in Gilman, January 29, 2013.
He was born Monday, March 12, 1928 in Pittsburgh, PA., a son of the late Elwood Ferguson, Sr. and Viola Good Ferguson. He was married to Betty Norton Ferguson who preceded him in death February 14, 1993. Surviving is his daughter, Darlene Renee Ferguson Phares and husband Don of Gilman; two sons Charles Edward “Chuck” Judy and wife Peggy of Elkins; Michael Cordell “Mike” Judy and Joyce of Leading Creek Road; a special daughter-in-law JoAnn Judy of Gilman; one sister Romaine F. Auvil and husband Jim of Canton, Ohio; five grandchildren, Christina Judy of Laurel Mt. Road; Matthew Judy of Leading Creek Road; Erin Judy of Elkins; Chad Judy; and Mikie Judy both of Harding; two step grandchildren, Aaron Harner and wife Kelley, Coalton; Israbella Rose, Elkins; six great-grandchildren Kaylee Judy; Tyler Judy; Katelyn Judy; Chase Judy; Emma Judy; and Garrett Judy; his companion Deloris Johnson and their special cat “Bubba”; and several nieces and nephews.
Preceding him in death was one son, Robert E. “Bob” Judy and his only brother, Fredrick “Fred” Ferguson and two sisters, Rosalie “Rose” Ferguson and Gwendolyn “Gwen” Carr.
He attended the schools of Pittsburgh, PA and worked at Dad’s Old Fashion Root Beer, Emoco Gas and Pittsburgh Screw & Bolt Co. in Pittsburgh. After moving to Montrose he was employed by Preston Hardwood and Frazee Lumber Co. as a tractor trailer driver and Teter Motors as a well-known mechanic and body shop repairman. In 1967 he became employed by Ralph Hess-hess Oil Company as a gasoline tanker driver (having pulled the first load of fuel into the bulk plant) and master furnace repair man. He received awards from Phillips 66 for his excellence in driving and devotion to the business. When Hess Oil was sold to Brown Family Hess Oil he continued to drive truck and work as a mechanic. In 2006 when the plant was closed he pulled the last load of fuel out. He was a member of Leading Creek Fire Department for many years having served as assistant fire chief and was a Methodist by faith.
He enjoyed eating breakfast at Hardee’s with his friends and going to Scotties for good conversations. He will be greatly missed by his family and the many friends he made during his lifetime.
The family will receive friends at the Lohr & Barb Funeral Home of Elkins from 5 to 8 PM, Tuesday. Final Rites will be conducted at the funeral home, Wednesday, February 13, 2013 at 11:30 AM. The Rev. David Fisher will officiate and interment will follow at the Lambert Chapel Cemetery at Barbour County, WV.
