Gerald Phillips Hinkle, age 96, of Buckhannon, WV, died Thursday, February 28, 2013 at his home under the care of St. Joseph Hospice. He was born November 26, 1916 in Hemlock, WV, a son of the late Goff and Carmie Phillips Hinkle. On August 12, 1944 he married Garnett G. Beverage of Buckhannon, who survives. Also surviving are one daughter, Judy Jarrett and husband Dana of Buckhannon; one granddaughter, Erin Shupe of Taylorsville, NC; four grandsons, Jerod Harman of Buckhannon, Jon Gay and wife Cindy of French Creek, WV, Trenton Gum of Morgantown, WV and Seth Gum of San Diego, CA; two great granddaughters, Kendra and Kari Gay both of French Creek and two great grandsons, Levi Gay of French Creek and Wyatt Gum of LA. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one daughter, Carolyn Blosser; two brothers, Burl and Eugene Hinkle and one sister, Jenneve Hamilton. Mr. Hinkle was a member of the Mt. Olive EUB Church at Hinkleville and attended the Christian Fellowship Church in Buckhannon. He served forty years with the Upshur County Board of Education as a teacher and principal. He was a charter member of the Central-upshur Lions Club and was awarded the Leonard Jarrett Award and was a guiding Lion and helped start the Ireland Lions Club. Friends will be received from 6-8 PM, Sunday, March 3, 2013 at the Poling-st. Clair Funeral Home. A funeral service will be held 2 PM, Monday at the funeral home with the Rev. J. Edward McDaniels officiating. Burial will follow in the Buckhannon Memorial Park Cemetery in Buckhannon. Poling-st. Clair Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
