Denver Caynor, age 90, of Buckhannon, WV died Thursday, December 5, 2013 at Holbrook’s Nursing Home in Buckhannon. He was born August 28, 1923 in Ellamore, WV, a son of the late Harley and Jeannette Dawson Caynor. On August 7, 1948 he married Betty L. Sipe who survives. In addition to his wife, he is survived by one son, Dennie Caynor and wife Margie of Buckhannon; two grandsons, Theron Caynor and Nicholas Caynor and wife Michelle all of Buckhannon; great grandchildren, Olivia, Owen, Savannah, Annabelle and Sarah; one brother, Dave Caynor wife Bonnie of Buckhannon; two sisters in law and several nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by two grandsons, Travis and Nathaniel Caynor; three sisters, Erma Caynor, Elda Wilt and June Riggleman and one brother, Thirl Caynor. Mr. Caynor was a member of the Sand Run Baptist Church. He served in the Pacific Theatre during WW II; he received the Asia Pacific Theatre Medal, 2 Bronze Stars, the Philippine Liberation Medal, and the WW II Victory Medal. He was the leader of the Sleepy Hollow Ramblers and played with them for over 60 years. He had been employed by Gaston Grocery, Dawson Furniture, WVWC Athletic Dept., Part Owner of Caynor Furniture and retired from Buckhannon Housing Authority. Friends will be received Saturday, December 7, 2013 from 5-8 PM at the Poling-st. Clair Funeral Home. A funeral service will be held 2 PM Sunday at the funeral home with the Rev. Donald Butcher officiating. Burial will follow in the Sand Run Baptist Cemetery at Excelsior, WV. Poling-st. Clair Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
