Betty Everhart passed Nov. 29, 2009, at her daughter’s home in Buckhannon, West Virginia with her loving family and caregivers at her side. “Be ye faithful unto death and I will give you a crown of life” Rev. 2:10. Welcoming her in heaven is her beloved husband and life-long companion of 58 years, Marion “Bud” Everhart. Her warm and loving nature was expressed in all that she did as wife, mother, grandmother, and friend. She was born Sept. 28, 1925 in Mabel, Minnesota to Norwegian parents, Elizabeth Amdahl Bakke and Julius Bakke, and was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran Faith which she carried through life. She attended school in Mabel, Minnesota where she expressed her love of music by playing and singing in bands, chorus groups, and trios. She sang with the Sweet Adelines in Corpus Christi, directed church choirs, and was the organist at St. Luke’s in Honey Grove, Texas for many years. Betty married Marion Everhart, July 6, 1944 after he received his wings in the Marine Corp. They were blessed with three children, Michaelynn Delone, Steven Bruce, and Benson Darrel. They moved to Lamar County, Texas, in 1979 after Bud’s retirement from the Army. Preceding her in death was her beloved husband, her parents, only brother, Darrel Bakke, two nieces and one nephew. She leaves behind her daughter, Micki and husband Chuck McGarry; sons, Steven Everhart and wife Linda, Benson Everhart and Holly Richter. Grandchildren: Laura McGarry Spencer and husband Robert; Brandon McGarry; Theresa McGarry Drake and husband Brad; Nicholas McGarry and fiancée Amanda; Chad Everhart and wife Teresa; Taymn Everhart; Steven McClain and wife Maggie and David McClain and wife Sarah. Great grandchildren: Corey, Cortney, Taylor, Zachary, and Tristan McGarry; Macey and Marlee Everhart; Autumn and Norah Drake; Madison, Natalie, Jakob, Annalise and Lorelei McClain; Liberty and Sunny. Great-great grandchild: Bethany McGarry. Many nieces & nephews, special nephew James Coffin of Dallas, and sister-in-law Marguerite Everhart of Indiana. Visitation will be at Bright-holland Funeral Home, Saturday, Dec. 5th, from 10:00 a.m. – 11:00 a.m. Services are scheduled for 11:00 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 5th, at the funeral home with burial following in Pleasant Hill Cemetery where Betty will be laid to rest alongside her partner in life. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to St. Luke’s Lutheran Church in Honey Grove, Texas to be used to support LCMS schools.
