Harry N. Peters Sr., 75, of Maple Street, Fostoria, died Sunday morning, March 18, 2012, at his home surrounded by his children.
Born March 9, 1937, in Flint, W.Va., to Charles and Pansy (Helmick) Peters, he was raised by Fannie Mae (Cave) Peters. Jan. 24, 1959, in Cripple Creek, Colo., he married Dorothy L. Wallace, and she died in 2005.
He is survived by three sons, Charles Peters of Upper Sandusky, and Harry (Amy) Peters Jr. and Thomas (Lynda) Peters, both of Fostoria; four daughters, Elizabeth (Mickie) Loehr, Dorothy (David) Shatzer, Carrie (Charles) Jordan and Wanda (Dave) Thomas, all of Fostoria; four brothers, James Peters of Fostoria, Roger (Joan) Peters of Alvada, Robert (Pam) Peters of Beverly, W.Va., and Johnnie (Mary) Bennett of Abingdon, Md.; three sisters, Mary Miller of Fostoria, and Betty Welch and Kathy (Hank) Crumm of Valley Head, W.Va.; 23 grandchildren, Pamela, Charles Jr., Christopher and Heather Peters, Steven Jr., Glenn Beck, Travis and Patrick O’Neal, Brett and Daniel Shatzer, Veronica Peters, Daniel Peters, Shelby Ferguson, Justin, Jocelin, Kirk and Kyle Jordan, Brenndan and Cortney Gibson, Becki Haas, and David II, Daniel and George Thomas; 16 great-grandchildren, Autum, Terrah and Dustin Beck, Tyler Agiapiou, Haili and Ryan O’Neal, Owen Shatzer, James Van Hoose, Daemyn Strickland, Jasmine Shatzer, Kaiden and Khale Peters, Julian Cassady, and Shane Jr., Emma and Andrew Haas; and his best friend and soul mate, his dog, Sandy Sue.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife; a brother, Charles Peters; and five sisters, Dorothy Brown, Nancy Stein, Velma Fouts, Carol Smith and Sandra Eddington.
He retired in 1994 from H.L. Crouse Construction with 30 years of service. He was a U.S. Air Force veteran, having been discharged in 1963.
A member of Trinity United Brethren Church in Fostoria, Harry was a good dad, grandfather and friend to all who knew him. He was a devoted Christian. He was a fighter, and fought to the end.
Services will be 10:30 a.m. Friday at Trinity United Brethren Church, with Pastor Samuel Suman officiating. Visitation will be noon-3 and 5-8 p.m. Thursday at Harrold-floriana Funeral Home, Fostoria. Burial will be in Knollcrest Cemetery, Arcadia, with military honors by United Veterans of Fostoria.
