Elsie Mercedith Norton Allen, age 91, passed from this life Tuesday afternoon, June 19, 2012, at the home of her daughter and son-in-law, Laura and Lynn Ferguson of Elkins, WV. Elsie had been in declining health. Elsie was born Monday, February 14, 1921, in Akron, OH, the daughter of the late Clarence Robert Norton and Mittie Virginia Harper Norton. Surviving are four children, Laura J. Ferguson and husband Hoy Lynn, Elkins, Katherine Terry, Summersville SC, Charles R. Allen, Orlando, FL, and Carolyn E. Allen, Harrisonburg, VA, ten grandchildren, sixteen great grandchildren, and a brother-in-law, William Bucklew. Elsie was preceded in death by her sister, Rosalie. Elsie completed high school in Ohio and graduated from Davis & Elkins College. She was a veteran of the United States Coast Guard and had been employed as a bookkeeper for the State of Ohio. She enjoyed crafts and reading. Elsie’s request for cremation was honored. A memorial service will be held at the Crystal Springs Community Church on Friday, June 22, 2012 at 4PM. Pastor Bryan Headley will officiate.
